You can customize your $[officename] to suit your needs. Use Tools - Customize to open the Customize dialog to change toolbars, menus and other user interface items. You are free to change the items on the menu bar. You can delete items, add new ones, copy items from one menu to another, rename them, and so on. The toolbars may be freely configured. You can change the shortcut keys.

You can change default settings of $[officename] to suit your needs. Use Tools - Options to open the Options dialog to change a variety of settings you will use in $[officename] modules. Items presented in the Tools - Options menu will change depending on the module you are using. In Tools - Options - Language Settings, you will find options for your default language and currency setting. In Tools - Options - $[officename] Writer - Basic Fonts, you will find default font settings. Change these to suit your preferences. Fonts can easily be changed on per document basis. Tools - Options - Print contains a number of print customizations that may be useful for your particular needs.
